ARTIST: ROMATHONY
RELEASE: THE WANDERER (2011 REMIXES, PT 2)
CAT #: GU2005
RELEASE: 30/10/2011
TRACKS: PHOTO 51 DIFFRACTION MIX // ROB MELLO’S NO EARS REMIX // KEVIN MCKAY REMIX // LOUIS GUILLAUME’S DARK SIDE OF THE MOON MIX // LUOIS GUILLAUME’S BASEMENT MIX
Described by leading electronic tastemaker Discobelle as having a “vocal track cool enough that it kind of makes Prince sound like a dork in comparison”, “The Wanderer” is one of “One More Time” writer/vocalist Romanthony’s all-time great songs.
Originally released on Glasgow Underground, The Kevin McKay remix of the Wanderer has been licensed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label and so we decided to get some new mixes in to run alongside Rob Mello’s much-feted No Ears Remix.
Photo 51 are Nico De Ceglia and Franky Redente. Nico is one half of the Hyena Stomp project with Severino (Horse Meat Disco). Here they create a low-slung bass-heavy bump that was supported by Seth Troxler @ DC10 closing (amongst other places).
Louis Guilliaume is a dutch producer who’s debut release, the wigged-out techno funk of “Soulpoint I/II” marked him out as a producer to watch. His housier contributions to the “Home Taping is Fun” compilation found favour with Neville Watson and Andrew Weatherall. Here he delivers a heady 4/4 soundtrack fit for dark and dingy basement parties.
Notable DJ support: Spencer Parker, Paul Woolford, Tom Flynn, Laurent Garnier, Steve Mac, Russ Chimes, Maxxi Soundsystem, Toby Tobias, Harri (Sub Club), Hernan Cattaneo, Gavin Herlihy, Ali Herron (OOFT!), Nuno Dos Santos, Stuart Patterson, Terry Farley, Fred Everything, Herve, Deetron, Luke Solomon, Joakim, Rachel Barton, Ben Watt, Lewis Dene, Jon Marsh, Charles Webster, Frank Tope, Mark E, Michael Mayer, Spiller, Neville Watson, Q Burns, Master-H, Justin McMullen [Planet of Sound], Sasse
