#GU2033 – ROMANTHONY – TRUST 2014 – REMIXES PART 2

We’ve been a fan of Motor City Drum Ensemble since the brooding and eerie “Escape To Nowhere” in 2007 – a track that sounded like someone had listened to “French Kiss” on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. So when we started re-issuing Romanthony’s classics with fresh remixes, MCDE’s Danilo Plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. It has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesn’t disappoint. Taking on “Trust”, most people would head straight for the vocal but Plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung groove reminiscent of Muzique Tropique and early Glasgow Underground releases by Studio Blue. The first 12” of the package featured his vocal flecked Deep Mix – this 12” features his completely instrumental dub mix.

Mia Dora follow up their killer MadTech 12” (After The Dog/You In The Future) and their recent Pete Tong Essential New Tune (Clear) with another killer Romanthony remix (their “Let Me Show You Love” rework was a favourite for the likes of Oneman and Jackmaster). The Glasgow boys deliver rolling low toms and a heavy kick drum with some moody chords and tight percussion while the vocal rides effortlessly on top. Deep and soulful yet heavy as fuck.

Daniel Trim had a great 2013. A slew of killer cuts (“Its Entertainment”, “Asimo”, “Do You Really Love What You Do?” & “Odet”) added to his already impressive list of A-list supporters (Jackmaster, Gilles Peterson, Jimpster, John Digweed, Skream and Solomun are all fans). On this classy mix he gets out the Fender Rhodes and creates a sublime, bass-heavy piece of hypnotics that fits the vocal perfectly and delivers a groove that sounds like Sasha and King Britt were at the helm.
