Mihalis’ Material label has supplied us with plenty of DJ tools in the past so its great for us to represent some of his own music here on Glasgow Underground. Being a great A&R has also lead him to being involved in some great collaborations (We love the remix he did with Redondo of CJ Jeff on Sphera). So when he sent us these two tracks he’d made with Raffa FL, we were immediately interested. We first saw Raffa FL playing alongside Mia Dora and Newbie Nerdz at Plan B in Brixton. We were immediately taken with his no-nonsense dance-floor focussed sound. The agonies some DJs go through about whether to play some oh-so-cool-and-probably-too-boring records or the maybe-not-as-cool-but-bloody-entertaining records is lost on him. No dicking around trying to be too cool for school, just straight in there with the kind of energy and vitality that the crowd wants. This record is the perfect example of the kind of set we heard him play then. The tracks aren’t going to win an Ivor Novello award but we can’t imagine dropping it in a decent house club at 2am and the place not going OFF. As if these two weapons weren’t enough, we’ve enlisted Berlin’s Mat.Joe to take “Freedom” and give it a right good Berlin bashing. The result is a saxed-up groover that reminds me of how massive this was in the 90s –
