#GU2021 – VARIOUS ARTISTS – SUMMER OF LOVE 2013
This is a compilation for summer and love. Glasgow’s Ovr Kill deliver Floating Point, 8 and a half minutes of dancefloor love. Its warm chords, swooning synths and soaring fx tug the heart strings while the bass and drums slowly jack your body on the floor. Grum clearly enjoying his new found love of house music – takes Kevin McKays Body Talk and transforms it into the kind of air-punching p-funk bomb that youd normally hear from Maceo Plex. Add to that some gorgeously Grummy uplifting chords and youve got the kind of record that was made for dancing in the sunshine. LAs Small Pyramids gives us his citys take on the garage revival. Out goes the M1 organ sound of Ejeca et al and in comes touches of Todd Edwards and MJ Cole all wrapped up in a blissed-out Small Pyramids groove. Bristols Admin takes us deep and heavy with jazz vocals and a monster bass line conjuring up the kind of late night smoky moods that St. Germain did in the 90s. But with that added Bristolian bottom end. Portugals Mastercris and Kat Blu serve up a classic piece of jilted house. Sounding like it was dreamt up in Body & Soul era NYC and delivered by Kimbu Kimra it has the attitude of Jocelyn Brown and the kind of production that would be perfect for a boat party in Oslo or the bar at Lisbons Lux. Lastly Swedens Dana Berquist and NYCs Holosound round up the compilation with the kind of heady, swirling, bassy groove that youd hear Seth Troxler or Lee Foss playing to intimate dancefloors in the wee small hours.
